O2

"…The regular reviews of care plans mostly involve other services, particularly Social Services. It is important to involve the relevant agencies in regular care-planning reviews to achieve the best outcome for the client and allow the service to achieve its full effectiveness. It also allows for the service's aims to be discussed and the opportunity for any disagreements or differences of opinion to be resolved. All present should speak clearly, explain their meaning clearly and have the opportunity to express their opinion…"

CL1: Question 22

How do you recognise what people are trying to convey by their behaviour?

Through observing a person's behaviour - their actions, facial expressions, body language, what they are saying and the manner in which they are saying it - it should be possible to recognise what a person is trying to convey.

Some forms of behaviour are conveying obvious messages: e.g. aggressive or abusive behaviour conveys that the individual concerned is angry or severely unhappy about their situation, condition or circumstances.

Sometimes, recognising what is being conveyed may be more difficult, e.g. when a person's body language differs or contradicts what they are communicating verbally; a person's verbal communication may be conveying message to the effect that they are friendly and approachable, but their body language may give the listener cause for doubt as to the sincerity of what they're saying.
